Choosing Your Electronics Wisely
by Richard Schmit

Many people today are confused with all the
terminology and lingo that is used to refer to all
types of electronics. If you don~t know what you~re
looking for, and don~t know the right kind of
questions to find the right answers, purchasing
electronics can be extremely intimidating. You may
find that sales clerks in stores get very pushy when
they~re trying to sell you something that you know
very little about. By learning just a few basics
about electronics you~ll be buying with more self
assurance.

Are you confused about whether to buy a brand
name or not? Brand names will most times come
with a higher price attached to them. But is it really
worth it to buy the higher priced brand name? The
answer is yes, since top brand names are easier to
repair if there is a problem. This is because most
repair shops will carry parts for brand names and
this means that they don~t have to order them in.
You~ll get a better warrantee when you buy brand
name electronics.

When you have a certain TV set or stereo system in
mind you can get more information, such as reviews
and ratings, by looking on the Internet for consumer
information. You can easily find out what other
consumers thought of the same product. Read more
than one review so that you get some unbiased
opinions of the electronic item that you~re thinking
about buying. You can also use the Internet to
compare more than one brand of electronics so that
you can narrow down your choice of what to buy.

There are always new electronic products emerging
on the market. This can be a big trap for people
new to electronics as well as the seasoned techie.
New electronic products need to be on the market
for a couple of months to see what flaws, if any,
there are. It can be an expensive lesson to learn if
you buy products the minute that they hit the
market. Take a look at the plasma television which
was such a hit when it first came out. The new
word on these televisions is that when one of the
key components wears out it can~t be replaced.

The more that you know about the electronics that
you~re buying the better off you~ll be. Know what
amount of wattage you~re looking for in your new
sound speakers. And when you need that new
computer you should have idea of the RAM that
you want as well as the computer speed, or CPU.
The more informed you are the more likely you are
to buy exactly what you want.

Shopping for electronics can be a very daunting
experience, but with a little research and know-how
you~ll be able to ask salespeople the right questions,
and leave the store with just what you came for.
